What do I need to enable WhatsApp Coexistence?
You’ll need the latest version of the WhatsApp Business App (v2.24.17 or above) and a phone number from a supported country (business app phone numbers with country codes from Nigeria and South Africa are currently not supported). After that, you must go through the Embedded Signup process to enable coexistence for your phone number.
Is there an extra cost for using Coexistence?
No, there’s no additional cost for onboarding your WhatsApp Business app number to the WhatsApp API using Coexistence. You’ll only be charged for messages sent through the API, as per WhatsApp’s official messaging rates.
Are there any limitations when using Coexistence?
Yes. When you use the WhatsApp Business App and the WhatsApp API together using the same phone number, your message throughput decreases from 80 messages per second (MPS) to a fixed rate of 20 MPS. Additionally, some WhatsApp Business App features behave differently. For instance, broadcast lists become read-only, while disappearing, view once, and live location messages aren’t supported in 1:1 chats.
Can I disconnect my WhatsApp Business app number from the API after Coexistence?
Absolutely. You can revert to using only the WhatsApp Business app by going to Settings › Account › Business Platform in your WhatsApp Business App and tapping the Disconnect Account button.
Can I use Coexistence to connect a number set up on the API to the App?
No. Coexistence only supports linking an existing WhatsApp Business App number to the WhatsApp API, not the other way around.
Does Coexistence work with the standard WhatsApp app?
No. Coexistence is only available for WhatsApp Business app numbers. You can’t onboard a standard WhatsApp number to the WhatsApp API using Coexistence.
